প্রবন্ধটি পড়া হলে, শেয়ার করতে ভুলবেন না রহমান রহীম আল্লাহ্‌ তায়ালার নামে- লেখক :  ড. আবু বকর মুহাম্মাদ যাকারিয়া [পিএইচডি (ইসলামী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, মদীনা), সহকারী অধ্যাপক ও চেয়ারম্যান- ফেকাহ্ বিভাগ, ইসলামী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, কুষ্টিয়া] শবে বরাত (বারাত) আভিধানিক অর্থ অনুসন্ধান ‘শব’ ফারসি শব্দ। অর্থ রাত বা রজনী। বরাত শব্দটিও মূলে ফারসি। অর্থ ভাগ্য। দু’শব্দের একত্রে অর্থ হবে, ভাগ্য-রজনী। বরাত শব্দটি আরবি ভেবে অনেকেই ভুল করে থাকেন। কারণ ‘বরাত’ বলতে আরবি ভাষায় কোন শব্দ নেই। যদি বরাত শব্দটি আরবি বারা’আত শব্দের অপভ্রংশ ধরা হয় তবে তার অর্থ  হবে— সম্পর্কচ্ছেদ বা বিমুক্তিকরণ। কিন্তু কয়েকটি কারণে এ অর্থটি এখানে অগ্রাহ্য, মেনে নেয়া যায় না- ১.  আগের শব্দটি ফারসি হওয়ায় ‘বরাত’ শব্দটিও ফারসি হবে, এটাই স্বাভাবিক ২.  শা’বানের মধ্যরজনীকে আরবি ভাষার দীর্ঘ পরম্পরায় কেউই বারা’আতের রাত্রি হিসাবে আখ্যা দেননি। ৩.  রমযান মাসের লাইলাতুল ক্বাদরকে কেউ-কেউ লাইলাতুল বারা’আত হিসাবে নামকরণ করেছেন, শা‘বানের মধ্য রাত্রিকে নয়। আরবি ভাষায় এ রাতটিকে কি বলা হয়? আরবি ভাষায় এ রাতটিকে ‘লাইলাত
